What is Myofascial Release?

What is Fascia?

Fascia is a continuous three-dimensional web of connective tissue that spreads from head to toe, without interruption.

Fascia is interconnected throughout our entire bodies from muscles and bones, to nerves and blood vessels, and even your organs and brain, it’s everywhere!

The fascial system, when working normally, can move freely and help to absorb shock throughout our daily activities.

When the body experiences trauma through falls, surgeries, accidents, etc. the fascial system begins to solidify, causing issues such as decreased flexibility, tightness, and pain.

Because this system is all interconnected, if one area of fascia begins to harden this can put pressure on surrounding pain sensitive structures as well as create a pull on other areas of the body.

Over time this tension can pull our body out of alignment, causing pain and further issues.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release (MFR) is a hands-on whole body treatment that involves applying gentle, sustained pressure and movement into the fascial system to release restrictions and treat the root cause of pain.

When there are restrictions within the fascial system, this puts a significant amount of pressure on pain-sensitive structures within the body such as our muscles, nerves, blood vessels, and bones.

Fascial restrictions can often be the cause of issues in the body such as decreased mobility and range of motion and increased pain and dysfunction.

MFR releases the restrictions creating a healthy environment for our cells and body systems to function and relieving the body of its daily aches and pains.

What to Expect:

Myofascial release entails firm pressure to the fascia system through manual pressure with a prolonged stretch.

The prolonged stretch will be held up to 5 min per section to get a true release.

The treatment also contains gentle muscle energy techniques to rebalance muscles and bones.

I can never hurt someone through this work.

You will experience soreness from fascial restrictions releasing it will not last more than a couple of days.

Also, because fascia restrictions can be found in the brain - treatment can also release traumatic events within the body - leading to involuntary emotional releases.

We will complete a full body evaluation including range of motion and flexibility testing and a hands-on whole body assessment for fascial restrictions. Treatment will be provided based on your unique situation along with a home program for self-treatment.
